Food at King’s Lodge

Food in a Care Home is something that people tend to not look upon fondly. Images of overcooked vegetables, dry meat and soggy potatoes are often peoples first thoughts when imagining a lunch in a care home.

However, forget what you might think you know about care home meals. At King’s Lodge our Head Chef and Food & Beverage Manager wow our residents everyday with their perfectly cooked, nutritious and delicious meals.

A Person Centred Approach To Food

Whether you prefer a cooked or continental breakfast, a sandwich or a cooked lunch, the choice really is down to you, the resident. We design our menus to be a home from home experience, with fresh, seasonal produce to create beautiful home cooked meals such as Shepherd’s Pie, Mushroom and Red Pepper Stroganoff and Beef and Mushroom Pie.

Nutritious and Delicious

Our Kitchen Team work closely with the nurses and carers to ensure that all nutritional needs of the resident are met. When assessed, nurses will perform a thorough check on the residents dietary needs and history, and our Food & Beverage manager will chat through the residents like and dislikes, as well as ensuring they understand their favourite foods and drinks, to provide a broad spectrum of delicious meals, on a daily basis. This approach, means that residents feel entirely settled with their meals from the day they move in.

Special Diets

Our Chefs offer fresh, seasonal menus with are changed on a daily basis for lunch and dinner. Each menu has a full list of allergies and we ensure that we cater to everyone’s individual allergies and dietary needs. Whatever the need, we ensure that we will cook something delicious and exciting for those living at Stratton Court.

EVENTS

At King’s Lodge, we like to celebrate as much as possible! Whether it be with a bonfire and toasting marshmallows for Bonfire night, or creating a beautiful valentine’s menus or a high tea to celebrate a birthday, no matter the occasion, our Kitchen Team play an integral role in making the event special.

This includes offering private dining experiences for family events, so everyone can celebrate safely together, with the ones they love the most. Using our private dining areas and working with our chefs, we can create something truly memorable for our residents and their family.

Chris Hill, Food & Beverage Manager

Chris has over 25 years in the food and beverage industry, starting at Farnborough College while working at the local hotel. Following College, he started his career in fine dining restaurants and hotels to learn everything he could and assisted one of these wonderful Restaurants to be featured in the prestigious Good Food Guide within its first year of opening.

After this, he worked at a beautiful golf course overseeing their team of 10 preparing beautiful menus for their functions for up to 300 people.

Chris loves getting to know the people he cooks for, so working in the care sector was the perfect move for him and he finds this his most rewarding role to date. He has won the Hospitality Assured Award nearly 2 years ago, and this was the first time that a care home had been awarded such an award.

Functions are the things Chris is most passionate about, so he loves to work with the Activities Team to create memorable occasions and themed nights. His Chef’s Table is a new addition to our monthly calendar, which sees 8-12 residents come to have a special dinner with the chef to try new foods and experience new cuisines. It has served as a wonderful occasion people look forward to, as well as a valuable opportunity to hear the feedback from the residents.

Chris loves to cook all foods, but his favourite is classic English food cooked beautifully. He loves being able to work with residents to develop menus which make them feel at home.

I am a true family man and love to be outside with my family and dogs, whether it be walking, cycling or camping. My true love is cooking food and I love when I get to try new things and work with new flavours and ingredients. It gives me absolute joy to work with the residents of King’s Lodge to create menus which make them feel good and remind them of home, so they feel they are at home, every, single, day.
