In practice

Dementia care that matches the person, not the diagnosis.

Our dementia wings are designed to reduce confusion and anxiety and to promote calmness and independence.

During the day, natural light fills our rooms, and at night, glare-free lighting prevents dark corners that can cause fear or misinterpretation. Acoustics are muted. Sightlines make it easy to see where you are and where you’re going. Colours, textures and finishes help to easily identify objects.

Every member of our dementia team is specially trained. A consultant in old-age psychiatry visits monthly and reviews every resident at least quarterly, providing specialist oversight alongside the day-to-day care team.

The environment is secure but never restrictive. Residents can move freely between their suite, lounges, our gardens, and the wider home, with support available whenever it’s helpful to them.

And when someone behaves in a way some might call “challenging”, we look at it differently. We see it as communication, and our job is to listen, understand, and respond with patience.

Family support and education

Our care plan system has a facility called ResHub, which families can access to check on their loved one’s wellbeing. If you have further questions or would like an update, we always welcome an email or phone call.

Who it suits

Dementia care is right when…

People come into our dementia care at different stages. Some are recently diagnosed and want a setting that can support them through whatever comes. Others arrive in middle or late stages, often after a crisis at home.

  • 01 A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, or another type
  • 02 Memory loss is starting to affect daily safety (the cooker, the front door)
  • 03 Care at home is unsustainable for the family, or a primary carer has fallen ill
  • 04 A hospital discharge needs a specialist onward setting
  • 05 A home for every stage of dementia
Common questions

The questions families ask us most.

Q.01
Will my parent recognise this as a care home?
Our wings are designed to look and feel like a country house, not a clinical ward. Most families tell us their relative settles within a fortnight.
Q.02
Can families visit any time?
Yes. We prefer you to visit during non-busy times. And, family lunches and birthday celebrations are always welcomed.
Q.03
How do you handle distress or "challenging behaviour"?
We treat it as communication and look for the cause — pain, environment, unmet need — before medication. Restraint is never used.
