Stratton Court is a family-run care home in Cirencester, with a dedicated dementia community designed for residents whose lives have come to need specialist support. We are a Dementia Care Awards Finalist 2026 and rated Good in all five Key Lines of Enquiry by the Care Quality Commission.
We see the person before the dementia. Every resident is an individual with a life lived, a history, and a way of being — not a diagnosis to be managed.
Chloe is qualified to Level 5 in Health and Social Care and leads our dementia community day to day. She is known by residents, families and colleagues for her dedication, her standards, and her sense of fun.
When you visit Stratton Court, Chloe is the person who will walk you through what we do, and why. We would rather she answered the difficult questions than we did.
The environment is the silent partner in good dementia care. We have designed ours around what people living with dementia actually need — not what looks elegant in a brochure (though we hope it does that too).
Good natural and artificial lighting, calming spaces, and contrasting colours between walls, floors, toilets and furniture — so the things our residents need to recognise actually stand out. Easy-to-identify picture signs guide residents around the home without relying on words alone.
We use coloured crockery rather than white. People living with dementia often struggle with depth perception and contrast, and white food on a white plate becomes difficult to see. Research shows that high-contrast plates can meaningfully improve food and fluid intake — we have seen this in our own community.
Each meal is offered with show plates, so residents can see what is on the menu and decide for themselves what they would like. A small thing — and it returns a quiet piece of agency that mattering matters.
Family photos, familiar objects, comfortable furniture from a former home — we encourage all of it. Surrounding someone with the faces and things they recognise helps them feel secure, and helps maintain a sense of who they are.
Residents walk, sit, garden and sit outside on their own without needing to ask permission. The boundary is there; it just is not the first thing you notice.
We promote independence and choice wherever we can — what to eat, when to get up, how to spend the afternoon. The day is built around the resident, not around the routine of the home.
Our staffing in the dementia community is higher than elsewhere in the home, and every member of the team is specifically trained in dementia care — including in how to respond to behaviour compassionately rather than reactively.
The same carers work with the same residents wherever possible, building familiarity even as memory fades. Registered nurses are on site 24 hours a day, every day, with a full nursing management team behind them. Our experience covers the full range of dementia needs — from early-stage support through to advanced and end-of-life care.
We promote independence and choice wherever we can. We talk openly with families. Care plans are reviewed regularly with relatives involved every step of the way — and there is no question too difficult, and no conversation we will shy away from.

The truest measure of a dementia community isn't its brochure — it's the families who've trusted us with their parents, partners and grandparents.
When Dad moved in, I thought we were managing the end of something. Within a fortnight Chloe had introduced him to half the community, and he was telling us — very firmly — that we needn't worry about him.
